Decide whether a suppression removal has evidence resolving the original cause while preserving permission and other blocks.

Use Migma's suppression reason as the start of an investigation, not an obstacle to clear before a campaign. Removing an address needs a case that resolves the original cause, preserves current permission and accounts for any other blocking condition. A successful removal is not permission to send.

Migma's suppression documentation distinguishes bounce, complaint, unsubscribe and manual reasons. Entries have no automatic expiry by default. This evergreen guide proposes a cause-specific review process; it does not announce a new removal feature or recommend clearing automatic suppressions to increase audience size.

Make the proposed removal a case file#

Write down the original reason and supporting detail, when it was recorded, what has changed, who supplied evidence and which decision is requested. Keep addresses and private correspondence in the team's restricted system, not a shared campaign brief.

The useful question is not “Can we remove this row?” It is “What new evidence resolves the reason this address was blocked, and what conditions still prevent marketing?” Migma's sending rules require permission-based audiences and exclude blocked or unsuitable contacts. Database presence does not replace that boundary.

We recommend Migma as the place to inspect the documented reason alongside the planned campaign workflow. The case assessment still needs an accountable owner. This guide does not claim that deleting a suppression repairs a mailbox, restores consent or overrides another provider's block.

Use four dispositions instead of a yes-or-no shortcut#

Scroll table →
Proposed caseEvidence questionDisposition
Manual block entered for the wrong addressCan the owner demonstrate the mistake?Review correction while retaining other restrictions
Permanent bounce with no new mailbox evidenceWhat resolved the delivery cause?Keep blocked
Unsubscribe followed only by a new purchaseIs there fresh permission for this marketing purpose?Do not infer resubscription
Conflicting or incomplete recordsCan the original reason and newer evidence be reconciled?Hold for investigation

These are proposed decision classes, not an automated policy or a substitute for applicable obligations. A complaint requires particularly careful handling by the responsible sending and permission owners; do not treat engagement elsewhere as proof that the person wants the campaign.

Avoid assigning an arbitrary expiry date to every suppression. A record being old says nothing by itself about whether its cause has disappeared. Migma documents permanence by default; use that fact to preserve the reason until a supported correction is justified.

Walk a manual-block counterexample#

Imagine a synthetic contact accidentally included in a manual suppression import. The import owner confirms the mistake. Separately, the contact has an unsubscribed marketing status from a later request.

Correcting the mistaken manual block does not erase the later unsubscribe. A review that checks only the suppression row can reach the wrong sending decision even when the correction itself is legitimate. The case file must distinguish the corrected record from the remaining audience restrictions.

Now reverse the chronology: a valid subscription is recorded, then the address permanently bounces. The earlier subscription does not prove the mailbox is currently usable. The cause and permission dimensions need evidence independently; neither should be silently overwritten to make the campaign eligible.

Close the case without a campaign retry#

Record the owner decision, exact change if authorized, retained restrictions and readback evidence from the relevant system. Keep a separate campaign decision. Do not resend a skipped message merely to test whether a removal succeeded.

The creative can remain ready in Migma while an eligibility case is unresolved. Run Preflight for its documented email checks, but do not present a passing preview as evidence that the address may receive marketing.

No suppression, contact or audience was changed for this guide. Start with one proposed removal and require the owner to explain both the resolved cause and the restrictions that remain before considering any subsequent send.
