Reconcile upstream template changes and intentional store customization against an approved email design without merely changing a version label.

Migma can preserve the desired appearance and wording of a WooCommerce email while a store developer updates its template implementation. Use three versions to review the change: the old upstream template, the store’s customized override and the new upstream template. A version label or attractive preview cannot explain which custom behavior survived. This maintenance review follows a different boundary from a WordPress capture-to-delivery handoff test.

Migma’s October 19 editorial guide separates creative review from WooCommerce maintenance. It is recent operational guidance, not a claim that Migma installs PHP templates. WooCommerce’s official outdated-template guide supplies the implementation starting point.

Ask the store owner to identify the file flagged in WooCommerce’s System Status report, its notification type, active theme and responsible maintainer. An outdated product-page template and an outdated order-email template need different work. Do not start from a warning without establishing the affected customer message.

Save the existing override and identify its original upstream base where possible. If that base is unknown, record the uncertainty and have the developer reconstruct intentional changes carefully. A three-way comparison is strongest when the earlier base is known; a guessed base can hide behavior rather than clarify it.

Retain an approved email reference on Migma’s Visual Canvas. Label sample order information as synthetic. This reference states the desired customer experience; it does not become the source of live order data.

Separate upstream changes from store intent#

Use this original delta ledger with the developer.

Do not assume every difference in the old override is intentional. Some may be historical workarounds or obsolete markup. Conversely, do not discard a deliberate condition simply because it is absent from the new default.

WooCommerce documents backing up the old template, starting from the current default and restoring customizations. The developer owns that implementation and any necessary code review. Merely changing the override’s version annotation does not perform the comparison.

Make order fixtures expose missing behavior#

Agree on representative cases for the affected notification before the update. For a fictional equipment store, useful fixtures include one item, several items with a long product name, a discount, an order with tax and shipping, and an order whose relevant field is absent.

Choose fixtures that match the store’s actual template and extensions. Do not expect every notification to show the same fields. Record which information is required, conditional or deliberately omitted for each case.

Compare generated totals and conditions against the store’s authoritative order data. Then compare hierarchy, wording, links and branding against the approved Migma reference. A correct amount in a confusing block still needs creative repair; a beautiful block with the wrong amount needs implementation repair.

Accept the implemented message#

Migma export can supply reviewed HTML as creative input where the implementer finds it appropriate. It cannot replace the WooCommerce template’s data and extension behavior by itself. Inspect the final message through the store’s approved test process after integration.

Preserve and review the customer-facing design in Migma while the developer reconciles the template. Marketing Wiki did not update a store, render an order or send a transactional email. Close the maintenance task only when the delta ledger, relevant order fixtures and final customer message agree; keep the record for the next upstream update.
