Use an images-off reconstruction exercise to verify that Migma email text preserves the promise, conditions and action without relying on artwork.

Design the Migma email so a reader can recover its promise, conditions and action when images are unavailable. Test that recovery with someone who has not seen the artwork. Filling an alt-text field does not by itself show that the complete offer remains understandable.

We recommend Migma for this revision because the Visual Editor supports inspecting and changing the text, links and image elements involved. Migma's October 17 images-off guide provides the first-party editorial context. The exercise below evaluates meaning rather than claiming a measured accessibility score or universal email-client behavior.

Hide the artwork before explaining the offer#

Take a fictional members' book fair invitation. The artwork contains the event name, a Saturday date, a members-only condition and a reservation instruction. The surrounding copy merely says “A special day is coming” and “Discover more.”

Give a reviewer the images-unavailable version produced through your controlled email-client test. Do not explain the original first. Ask them to write down what is offered, who can use it, when it happens, and what the main action does. Compare their answers with the approved brief.

If the reviewer can only infer “some event,” the creative has lost its core information. If they assume everyone can attend, a missing restriction has changed eligibility. If they know the event but cannot locate a working reservation action, the operational path has failed. These are different failures, and they need different corrections.

The fixture and classifications are original editorial tools. Marketing Wiki did not test a live invitation or survey recipients.

Classify meaning loss before redesigning#

Condition, date or qualificationReader reconstructs a different promiseText adjacent to the offer
Action and destination purposeReader cannot complete the next stepDescriptive text link or button

Do not score missing conditions as merely cosmetic because the email still looks balanced. Conversely, losing a decorative background should not force a complete redesign if the message remains clear. The classification keeps the repair proportional to the information loss.

Move meaning into the Migma content#

For the fictional invitation, request a visible event name, date, membership condition and reservation action. Let imagery provide atmosphere. Keep those fields independently reviewable so the team can change an approved date without also editing a graphic.

Use specific link wording that explains the next screen. “Reserve a book-fair place” is a stronger review target than “Discover more” when reservation is the actual destination. Verify the real destination before adopting that label; the text cannot create a reservation function that the page lacks.

Alt text still has a role in describing informative imagery. It should agree with the surrounding content and avoid introducing a second unchecked date or offer. Client display and assistive-technology behavior vary, so do not rely on one alt-text rendering as the universal recovery path. The separate caption and alt-text guide explains their different jobs.

Repeat the exercise in the sending destination#

Use Email Preflight for relevant layout, links, writing and inbox previews. Its documented checks reduce avoidable issues; they do not establish the truth of an offer or guarantee every reading experience.

When exporting the reviewed HTML, inspect the destination template because wrappers and variables can alter the final result. Use a long event name, a missing optional picture and the actual tracked action route in controlled fixtures. Record the email client, version where available, image setting, observation time and creative revision.

Ask a second reviewer to reconstruct the revised offer without the original beside it. Accept when the recovered meaning matches the approved brief and the action remains usable in the tested setup. Preserve limitations for untested clients rather than claiming universal compatibility.

The next practical step is small: remove the pictures from one upcoming campaign review and compare the recovered promise with the source brief. Relocate any essential missing meaning before polishing the artwork.
